I’ve been out of the city lately making my rounds to a couple East coast cities. A couple of weeks ago – I had my first girls only road trip since I’ve moved to NYC and we headed South to visit our Capitol, Washington DC and partake in the muddy and crazy Warrior Dash.
This was my first time visiting Washington DC and had hopes of meeting my friend, President Obama. I was told he was booked, had other urgent matters to care for and just couldn’t step away from the oval office for a quick chat about sports over a beer or two. Next time – when I’m in DC.
So, no quality time with Obama – I got to enjoy the beautiful city and its lush green trees, historical buildings where the foundation of our country was built, the Capitol and the Mall – all breath-taking!
I am so proud to be an American, to live in this beautiful country and the values it was built on. Seeing the Lincoln Memorial, getting a tour of the Capitol where I walked where our leaders have walked. I was in awe to see everything come to life right before my eyes.
We ended the day with a few glasses of white wine on the rooftop bar at the W Hotel overlooking the Mall and the White House. The evening ended with us inhaling some carbs to load us up for the Warrior Dash the next morning. Three-plus miles of mud, sweat and obstacles but the “Amazingly Freakish” girls made it to the finish line! We treated ourselves to a few beers, gigantic smoked turkey legs that were quite good and crashed at the hotel after a weekend full of fun at the Capitol.
Now, that’s how you do Washington DC – The American Way.

what’s funny to me is that the last two blog posts i wrote were about DC because i was there recently to speak on a panel at Eat Write Retreat (a food blogger conference). is it just my imagination or are you and the other runners covered in mud?
I really enjoyed DC and looking to go back in the fall when it’s not scorching hot. And yes, the girls weekend was diiiirty!
yeah, it always seems to be hot when i go there. diiirty… that cracked me up
